In the summer of 2023, the life of Chester King Tiggs III, a 29-year-old Black male, was tragically cut short. On August 20, 2023, in Flint, Michigan, Tiggs was a victim of gun violence. He was rushed to Hurley Medical Center, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. His death left a void in the lives of his family, including his children, mother, and sister, with whom he shared a close bond.
The investigation into the shooting led authorities to identify and
charge three individuals in connection with the homicide. One of the suspects, Deshawn Tiggs, who is reportedly related to Chester, was arrested and faced serious charges, including first-degree murder and felony firearm possession. Another man, Jamarr McKenzie, was also taken into custody, charged with lying to a peace officer during the course of the investigation.
A third suspect, Savon Johnson, was also identified and charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. However, Johnson was not immediately apprehended and remained at large. Law enforcement officials have continued to seek information from the public regarding his whereabouts to bring him to justice for his alleged role in the death of Chester King Tiggs III. The community was shaken by the violent act, prompting conversations about the ongoing issue of gun violence in the city.
