On April 4, 2023, at approximately 10:37 p.m., deputies from the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of gunfire in the parking lot of the Sheetz convenience store located on Old Great Mills Road in Great Mills, Maryland. Shortly thereafter, 26-year-old Marcus Anthony Day of Leonardtown arrived at MedStar St. Mary's Hospital in Leonardtown, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite medical efforts, Day was pronounced dead at the hospital.
