In the summer of 2023, a violent encounter in downtown Baltimore ultimately claimed the life of 45-year-old Anthony Walther. The male victim was assaulted on July 20 in the 100 block of Water Street. Following the attack, he was hospitalized to receive treatment for the injuries he sustained.
Despite medical efforts, Walther’s condition did not improve, and he succumbed to his injuries two weeks later, on August 4, 2023.
In the wake of his passing, the Baltimore Police Department classified his death as a homicide and opened an investigation into the circumstances that led to the fatal assault.
The subsequent police investigation led to the identification and arrest of a suspect, Norberto Hatcher. Authorities charged Hatcher with involuntary manslaughter in connection with Walther's death. As the case moved through the legal system, reports indicated that Hatcher was offered a plea deal that would result in a ten-year sentence.
