In the quiet of a late summer evening in Baltimore, a burst of violence on September 1, 2018, set in motion a tragedy that would take five years to reach its somber conclusion. On that night, in the unit block of North Catherine Street, Howard Dorsey, a 65-year-old man, was critically injured in a shooting that also wounded another, younger man. While the second victim’s injuries were not life-threatening, Dorsey’s were severe, beginning a long and arduous battle for his life.
For
five years, Howard Dorsey endured the painful consequences of the gunshot wounds he sustained. His fight for life came to an end on October 1, 2023, when he succumbed to complications from his injuries at the age of 70. Following his death, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy, and on November 30, 2023, officially ruled his death a homicide.
The Baltimore Police Department has been investigating the shooting since it occurred in 2018. However, despite the passage of time and the tragic outcome for Howard Dorsey, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. The case remains open, and authorities continue to seek information from the public that could lead to the identification and apprehension of the person or persons responsible for the violence that ultimately claimed a man's life half a decade later.
