In the winter of 2023, a life was tragically cut short in Baltimore. On the evening of December 30th, inside a home in the 4300 block of Seminole Avenue, a dispute took a fatal turn. During the altercation, 31-year-old Toby Rogers, a male, was shot. Southwest District patrol officers responded to a report of the shooting at approximately 10:14 p.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered Rogers suffering from gunshot wounds.
Despite the immediate response, medics pronounced him dead at the scene.
The investigation into the death of Toby Rogers moved swiftly. Homicide detectives began to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. Their efforts quickly identified a person of interest. Just a few days later, on January 2, 2024, an arrest was made in connection with the case.
Authorities took 22-year-old Jerrod Smith of Baltimore into custody. Following his arrest, Smith was transported to the Central Booking Intake Facility. He was formally charged with second-degree murder for his alleged role in the death of Toby Rogers.
