In the evening of March 16, 2024, a ShotSpotter alert drew Baltimore Police Department officers to the 1200 block of North Potomac Street. There, they discovered 21-year-old Christopher N. Yancey suffering from gunshot wounds. Although officers at the scene began to administer life-saving measures before medics arrived to transport him to a local hospital, Yancey was pronounced deceased a short time later.
The young man, who was Black, had celebrated his 21st birthday just eleven days prior to the shooting that claimed his life.
Christopher was remembered by his family as a brilliant, intelligent, and outgoing young man who was also very outspoken. His older sister described him as a loving individual who consistently showed up for his family and friends. A GoFundMe campaign was initiated to help his family with the costs of his memorial service.
The investigation into Christopher N. Yancey's death was taken over by Eastern District Detectives. As of late March 2024, no arrests had been made in connection with the shooting, and no suspects had been publicly identified. Authorities have urged anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the Eastern District Detectives or to provide anonymous tips through the Metro Crime Stoppers tip line.
