A dispute that began in a school bathroom escalated into a fatal shooting, leaving a community in mourning and a family shattered. Grant was a charismatic young man known for his warm smile, sharp wit, and love for video games, basketball, and football.
The incident unfolded when Grant was confronted by a fellow student,
16-year-old Jaylen Prince. The conflict reportedly stemmed from an argument over a girl. During the altercation, which was partially recorded on video by another student, Prince produced a 9mm ghost gun he had brought to school in his backpack. Despite Grant's attempts to de-escalate the situation and leave the restroom, Prince fired a single shot, striking Grant in the stomach. School nurses rendered immediate aid before he was airlifted to a trauma center, but his injuries proved to be fatal.
In the immediate aftermath, Prince fled the school grounds. His escape was brief, as residents in a nearby neighborhood spotted him and alerted authorities, leading to his swift apprehension. While the weapon used in the shooting was never recovered, investigators found ammunition in Prince's home. Jaylen Prince was charged as an adult with first-degree murder and various firearms offenses.
