In the early hours of a Monday morning in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, the life of 38-year-old Alexander Daugherty was tragically cut short. Just before 1 a.m. on July 8, 2024, police received a call about a gunshot heard in the vicinity of West Hensley Boulevard and South Morton Avenue. Upon their arrival, they discovered Daugherty in an alley with a gunshot wound. Officers immediately began life-saving measures until medical personnel arrived.
Daugherty was then rushed to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from a conflict over drugs or money. The incident is thought to have originated inside a nearby house, from which Daugherty fled into the alley after being shot. Neighbors reported hearing a single 'pop,' which they initially mistook for a firework. It wasn't until the arrival of police that the grave nature of the sound became apparent.
In the wake of the shooting, Bartlesville Police identified Thomas Conway as a person of interest in the case. Conway was later apprehended in Wichita, Kansas, on unrelated warrants. Those charges included possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, maintaining a dwelling for the sale of a controlled substance, and the unlawful use of a police scanner.
During a search of a residence connected to the investigation, authorities reportedly discovered a substance that tested positive for a cocaine base, various baggies containing the substance, digital scales, a glass pipe with methamphetamine residue, fentanyl pills, a police radio, and a loaded revolver. Conway was subsequently held on a $2 million bond. While he was arrested in close connection with the events surrounding Daugherty's death, the homicide case remains under active investigation.
