In the winter of 2022, Sharmayne Jackson, a 32-year-old Black/African American woman and mother of two young daughters, moved from her home in Anchorage, Alaska, to Kent, Washington, seeking a fresh start. Less than a year later, on the night of January 31, 2023, her life was tragically cut short. Inside a room at the Kent Valley Motel, Sharmayne and a 43-year-old man named Sean Peoples were found deceased, both having suffered from multiple gunshot wounds.
