On January 24, 2024, at approximately 3 a.m., 53-year-old Willie Anderson was shot and killed at a residence in the South Hill area of Spokane, Washington. The Spokane County Medical Examiner confirmed that Anderson died from a gunshot wound to the torso, and his manner of death was ruled as a homicide.
The incident occurred when 22-year-old Cody Low discovered Anderson sleeping in his mother's closet.
According to court documents, Low had initially heard two men outside his mother's apartment attempting to break in using power tools. After reporting the alleged break-in to the police, Low armed himself with a gun.
Low later heard snoring coming from his mother's room and went to confront Anderson. An argument ensued between the two men about Anderson leaving the apartment. Low claimed that Anderson 'threw up his hands really quick,' causing Low to close his eyes and pull the trigger, striking Anderson.
When police arrived at the scene, they found Anderson with a gunshot wound. Despite efforts by police and medical personnel to save him, Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene. Low was detained and cooperated with the authorities.
Further investigation revealed that Low's mother had allowed Anderson to stay in the apartment for one night as they were attempting to 'get back together'.
Following the incident, Cody Low was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. He was booked into the Spokane County Jail on the morning of January 24, 2024. Low had initially called 911 himself to report that he had shot Anderson in his mother's bedroom.
