In the early hours of July 3, 2024, a domestic argument in Grandview, Washington, turned deadly, claiming the life of 45-year-old Hispanic/Latino male Mariano Garcia-Yanez of Richland. The fatal encounter unfolded around 2:30 a.m. on the 100 block of Bridgeview Road. Deputies from the Yakima County Sheriff's Office and Grandview police officers were dispatched to the residence after a woman called to report that her ex-boyfriend had shot her father during a dispute.
Upon their arrival,
law enforcement discovered that Garcia-Yanez had sustained a gunshot wound and could not be revived. The incident marked the 12th homicide in Yakima County for the year. Investigators quickly identified a suspect in the shooting as 35-year-old Omar Ambriz-Lorenzano of Porterville, California. Ambriz-Lorenzano is believed to be the ex-boyfriend of Garcia-Yanez's daughter.
Immediately following the shooting, Ambriz-Lorenzano fled the scene, sparking a search by law enforcement. Despite their efforts, he could not be located in the immediate aftermath. The Yakima County Sheriff's Office has since been actively searching for Ambriz-Lorenzano in connection with the murder. As of late July 2024, he remained at large, and authorities have appealed to the public for any information that might lead to his apprehension.
