In the quiet community of Fall City, Washington, the morning of October 21, 2024, was shattered by a horrific act of violence that claimed the lives of five members of the Humiston family. Among the victims was 9-year-old Joshua Humiston, a White male, who was found deceased in his home from a gunshot wound. The incident unfolded in the early morning hours at the family's residence on Lake Alice Road Southeast.
Responding to multiple 911 calls, King County Sheriff's deputies arrived to a scene of unimaginable tragedy, discovering Joshua, his parents, Mark and Sarah Humiston, and two of his siblings, 13-year-old Benjamin and 7-year-old Katheryn, all fatally shot.
The sole survivor of the massacre was Joshua's 11-year-old sister, who managed to escape to a neighbor's house despite being shot in the neck and hand. Her testimony proved crucial in the immediate aftermath, as she identified her 15-year-old brother as the shooter. The teenage suspect had initially attempted to mislead authorities by calling 911 and blaming the killings on his 13-year-old brother, Benjamin, claiming it was a murder-suicide. However, the surviving sister's account, where she described hearing gunshots, seeing her brother with a gun, and then "playing dead" after being shot herself, led investigators to quickly focus on the older sibling.
The 15-year-old brother was taken into custody at the scene and has since been charged with five counts of first-degree aggravated murder and one count of first-degree attempted murder.
