In the early morning hours of October 28, 2024, the life of 15-year-old Soloman Taylor, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short in a shooting in Seattle's Central District. The incident occurred around 7:45 a.m. at the intersection of East Spring Street and 27th Avenue. Soloman, affectionately known as "Solo," was a freshman at Garfield High School.
The King County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed that he died from a gunshot wound to the torso.
Witnesses in the area reported hearing a quick succession of gunshots. One neighbor recalled hearing two shots, followed by a brief pause, and then another round of approximately six or seven more. Another witness described seeing three individuals talking on a street corner before one pulled out a gun. In the ensuing chaos, two people were seen fleeing the scene and escaping in a silver car that sped away. In a chilling detail, one witness who was rendering aid to Soloman reported that the suspect's vehicle circled back and drove through the intersection again just moments before police arrived.
As of the latest reports, the Seattle Police Department has not publicly identified any suspects in connection with Soloman's death, and no arrests have been made. Detectives are actively investigating the homicide and have appealed to the public for any information that might lead to the apprehension of those responsible. The investigation into the senseless act of gun violence that took the young teen's life is ongoing. In the wake of this tragedy, Soloman's family, including his parents La Creisha Lewis and Demario Taylor, have been supported by a community fundraiser to help with funeral expenses.
