On November 10, 2024, Jose Alcaraz-Caracoza, a 46-year-old man from Tacoma, Washington, tragically lost his life in Yelm, Washington. The incident occurred at the residence of Alvaro Cruz-Ibarra, who has since been charged with second-degree murder in connection with Alcaraz-Caracoza's death.
According to reports, Cruz-Ibarra and Alcaraz-Caracoza had met the previous night when Cruz-Ibarra stopped to assist Alcaraz-Caracoza, who had run out of gas.
The two men attended a wedding together and later went to Cruz-Ibarra's home, where they continued drinking and allegedly engaged in intimate activity.
The situation took a deadly turn when Cruz-Ibarra woke up and found his jewelry, watch, wallet, and keys missing. He confronted Alcaraz-Caracoza, accusing him of theft. The confrontation escalated into a physical altercation. When Cruz-Ibarra refused to let Alcaraz-Caracoza leave, the latter reportedly grabbed a knife. In response, Cruz-Ibarra loaded his rifle and shot Alcaraz-Caracoza.
Authorities discovered Cruz-Ibarra's wallet in his washing machine and his necklace and keys in a cupboard above it. The watch and rings remained missing, but investigators suggested it was more likely that Cruz-Ibarra had misplaced these items while intoxicated rather than Alcaraz-Caracoza attempting theft.
Cruz-Ibarra, who is 50 years old, was arrested and is being held in Thurston County jail without bail. A judge has set no bail for the accused, citing the severity of the charges. The case has garnered significant attention in the local community, with many mourning the untimely death of Jose Alcaraz-Caracoza.
