On June 16, 2023, 33-year-old Anika Lea Coleman was fatally shot in the backyard of a residence on Ridgewood Avenue in Lakewood, Ohio. Witnesses reported that Coleman had been involved in a verbal altercation with individuals at the home prior to the shooting. Upon arrival, police found Coleman with a gunshot wound to the chest; she was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Authorities detained three individuals from the scene for questioning and recovered two handguns. However, all three were released without charges at that time, as investigators worked to determine the specifics of the incident and identify who fired the fatal shot.
Two days later, on June 18, 30-year-old Robert Alvord-Nicolino, identified as Coleman's partner, died by suicide at the same Ridgewood Avenue residence. Lakewood Police Captain Gary Stone clarified that Alvord-Nicolino was not responsible for Coleman's death; instead, a neighbor shot Coleman after she allegedly pointed a gun at him. As of the latest reports, no charges have been filed, and the case remains under review by the prosecutor's office.
