On August 4, 2023, 18-year-old Deacon W. Graham was fatally shot at Fountain Park in Piqua, Ohio. The incident occurred around 11:16 p.m., when police responded to reports of two men with gunshot wounds in the 1300 block of Forest Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found Graham deceased at the scene, having suffered three gunshot wounds. A second victim, 20-year-old David Feniello, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
Authorities arrested 19-year-old Cory G. Miller of Piqua shortly after the shooting. Miller was charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder. During his arraignment, he pleaded not guilty, and his bond was set at $1 million. Investigations revealed that all three individuals were acquainted, and the incident was considered isolated.
On October 21, 2024, Miller was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated murder and attempted aggravated murder. The court mandated that he serve the sentences concurrently, with eligibility for parole after 30 years. Additionally, upon release, Miller must register with the violent offender database for a minimum of 10 years. During sentencing, Graham's family expressed profound grief over their loss, while Miller apologized, accepting full responsibility for his actions.
Deacon Graham was a 2023 graduate of Piqua High School and worked as a line cook at Red Lobster. He was an outdoor enthusiast, enjoying activities such as BMX racing, kayaking, and camping. He is survived by his son, Kambren Joseph Graham, his parents, stepparents, grandparents, great-grandparents, brother, and numerous other relatives and friends. His family and community remember him fondly and deeply mourn his untimely passing.
