On September 17, 2023, Bing Luan Lin, age 40, was tragically killed in a shooting incident in Bowling Green, Ohio. Lin was one of two victims who lost their lives in this event, with the other being identified as Zhichun Huang, 36. Both Lin and Huang were residents of Bowling Green and owners of the local restaurant Ninja Hibachi Sushi Steak House.
The incident occurred shortly after midnight at a residence located at 528 Monroe Court, a residential cul-de-sac west of Conneaut Elementary School. Multiple 911 calls reporting gunshots prompted a response from the Bowling Green Police Division and the Wood County Sheriff's Office. Upon arrival, officers discovered multiple victims, including Lin, who was found deceased at the scene.
The suspect in this double homicide was identified as Xiaosong Wang, a 62-year-old man from Bowling Green. Wang, who was an employee at the same restaurant owned by the victims, was arrested without resistance at the scene. He was initially charged with two counts of murder and one count of felonious assault.
The motive for the shooting appeared to stem from a workplace dispute. According to authorities, the restaurant owners had informed Wang that he was being fired following an altercation with another individual. They had attempted to give him his final paycheck and evict him from the residence where several restaurant employees lived. It was at this point that Wang allegedly used a .45 caliber handgun to shoot the victims.
On August 26, 2024, nearly a year after the incident, Xiaosong Wang pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to the shooting. These included two counts of aggravated murder, two counts of murder, three counts of attempted murder, three counts of felonious assault, and two counts of possession of criminal tools. Wang is scheduled to be sentenced on October 24, 2024, with aggravated murder charges carrying a life imprisonment sentence.
This tragic event deeply affected the Bowling Green community, particularly those connected to the local restaurant industry. The loss of Lin and Huang, both respected business owners, left a significant impact on their families, friends, and patrons of their establishment.
