On October 1, 2023, 16-year-old Keshaun Lamar was fatally shot at an apartment in the 27500 block of Brush Avenue in Euclid, Ohio. He was transported to Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Euclid Police Department swiftly identified and arrested a juvenile suspect from Euclid on the same day. The suspect's identity and age have not been disclosed.
Subsequently, authorities identified 20-year-old Jay Shan Vance as a second suspect involved in the shooting. On November 2, 2023, members of the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force apprehended Vance in East Cleveland. He faces multiple charges, including aggravated murder, murder, aggravated robbery, robbery, felonious assault, grand theft, tampering with evidence, and having weapons under disability. During his arraignment, Vance pleaded not guilty, and his bond was set at $1 million. Due to a probation hold from a previous case, he remains in custody pending trial.
Keshaun was remembered by his school community at Frederick Douglass High School Euclid Campus as a respectful, positive, and well-mannered young man. His untimely death has left a profound impact on his family, friends, and the local community.
