On May 27, 2024, at approximately 8 a.m., 28-year-old Bedford resident Rodney Jefferson was fatally shot at the intersection of East 137th Street and Caine Avenue on Cleveland's East Side. Emergency responders transported Jefferson to University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
According to police reports, Jefferson was involved in an altercation with a woman at a residence near the shooting site.
Following the dispute, the woman went upstairs, and a few hours later, she reported hearing gunshots. The circumstances leading to the shooting remain under investigation.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with Jefferson's death, and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects. The Cleveland Police Department continues to investigate the incident and urges anyone with information to contact the Homicide Unit at (216) 623-5464.
Jefferson's death was one of two homicides during a violent Memorial Day weekend in Cleveland, which saw a total of ten people shot in seven separate incidents. The other fatality involved 28-year-old Tavon Thompson, who was killed in a quadruple shooting downtown. Both cases remain unsolved, highlighting ongoing concerns about gun violence in the city.
