On June 9, 2024, 18-year-old Te'Nya Janay McKinley was fatally shot while seated in an SUV on Glenwood Avenue near Sherwood Avenue in Youngstown, Ohio. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. during a gathering known as a "car meet." Another woman in the vehicle was also injured. Authorities recovered nearly 100 shell casings at the scene, with ShotSpotter technology detecting approximately 131 rounds fired at that time.
Te'Nya was a freshman at Thiel College in Greenville, Pennsylvania, where she was recognized as a vibrant and promising student. The college community expressed profound sorrow over her untimely death. Her family and friends remembered her as a positive role model with aspirations of becoming a neurosurgeon.
As of now, there have been no arrests related to Te'Nya's death. The Youngstown Police Department continues to investigate and has urged anyone with information or video evidence to come forward.
