On August 4, 2024, a tragic incident occurred in Colerain Township, Ohio, resulting in the death of 15-year-old Demarian Palmisano. The teenager was shot at a home on Laverne Drive and later succumbed to his injuries at Cincinnati Children's Hospital.
According to reports, Demarian was accidentally shot by his best friend, a 16-year-old boy, who has since been charged with reckless homicide. The incident occurred when the two were handling a .22 long rifle.
The suspect, who was under the influence of alcohol at the time, believed he needed to shoot the gun to prime it. Unaware that it was already primed, he accidentally pulled the trigger, shooting Demarian in the back of the head.
The 16-year-old suspect immediately called 911, frantically explaining the situation to dispatchers and attempting to keep Demarian alive. In the call, he could be heard apologizing and expressing his disbelief at what had happened. Following the incident, the suspect was arrested and initially placed on house arrest after appearing in court.
Demarian Palmisano was described by his mother as kind, smart, and loving. He was set to begin his sophomore year at Northwest High School, having previously attended Taylor Elementary and Pleasant Run Middle School. The Northwest Local School District expressed their deep sorrow at the loss and offered counseling services to students and staff.
The community has rallied to support the Palmisano family during this difficult time. A GoFundMe page was set up to assist the family, and the Northwest High School Administration announced plans to work with the family on meaningful ways to honor Demarian's memory.
