On August 11, 2024, authorities in Republic, Ohio, discovered the bodies of 52-year-old Erik L. Werling and 53-year-old Dawn C. Werling in the backyard of their residence on East Township Road 106. Both individuals had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. The Seneca County Sheriff's Office, in collaboration with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, initiated a "questionable death" investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
