On October 8, 2024, at approximately 2:40 a.m., a shooting occurred near the 5300 block of Free Pike in Trotwood, Ohio, resulting in the death of 23-year-old Justin Semaj Lee Askew of Dayton. Following the incident, two victims, including Askew, sought help at nearby gas stations. They first arrived at the Shell gas station at 4046 Free Pike and then proceeded to the Sunoco gas station at 3900 Salem Avenue.
Both victims received immediate medical attention; however, Askew was pronounced dead en route to Miami Valley Hospital. The second victim sustained serious injuries.
The Trotwood Police Department is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. As of now, no arrests have been reported, and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects. Funeral services for Justin Askew were held on October 17, 2024, at the House of Wheat Funeral Home in Dayton, Ohio. Visitation took place from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by the funeral service at noon. Interment was at Shiloh Park Cemetery. Family and friends gathered to honor and remember Justin's life and legacy.
