On October 31, 2024, at approximately 8:59 PM, Columbus police officers responded to a shooting incident in the 1000 block of Fordham Road in the Maize-Morse neighborhood on Columbus' North Side. Upon arrival, they found Dennis Peoples III, a 37-year-old white male, suffering from a gunshot wound in front of a residence.
Peoples was immediately transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
Despite receiving life-saving medical care, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at 9:31 PM, just 32 minutes after the initial report.
As of the latest available information, no arrests have been made in connection with this incident. The Columbus Division of Police Homicide Bureau, specifically Homicide Team 3 Unit, is actively investigating the case. Detective C. Journey has been assigned as the lead detective, assisted by Detective Kirby.
Interestingly, investigators are looking into a claim of self-defense related to the shooting. Upon completion of the investigation, a case packet will be presented to the Franklin County Prosecutor's Office for review and potential Grand Jury examination.
Dennis Ray Peoples III was born on January 16, 1987, in Columbus to Dennis R. and Dianna (Tackett) Peoples. He was a resident of Westerville at the time of his death.
