On a tragic afternoon in Los Alamos, New Mexico, the life of 63-year-old Beverly A. Warner, a White female from Chimayo, was abruptly ended. On January 4, 2023, police responded to multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting a woman with gunshot wounds at a residence on Pueblo Drive. Upon entering the home, officers discovered a grim scene. Beverly Warner was found deceased from her injuries.
The investigation into her death quickly identified a suspect: her 69-year-old brother, Jack Markham, a
resident of Los Alamos. He was found deceased in the same home from a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Los Alamos Police Department subsequently began investigating the incident as a murder-suicide, naming Markham as the offender in his sister's homicide.
Further investigation revealed a dark past for Jack Markham. He had a prior conviction for the 2008 murder of his then-wife, Robin Markham. For that crime, he was sentenced to 16 years in prison but was released early in July 2017. His probation had only recently ended in September 2022, just months before he took his sister's life and then his own.
Beverly Warner was remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister whose life was suddenly and violently taken.
