On February 11, 2023, Michael Urioste, a 24-year-old man from Albuquerque, New Mexico, was fatally shot while intervening in a violent altercation at a Circle K gas station. The incident unfolded when Eric Ford, the primary suspect, allegedly assaulted a female clerk at the store. Urioste attempted to defend the clerk, which led to Ford pulling out a handgun and shooting Urioste in the abdomen.
