Anthony McCants, 26, and Candrick Begay, 31, were found dead on April 5, 2023, at Highway 64 Auto Salvage in San Juan County, New Mexico. The two men were employees at the salvage yard and had been pulling parts when they were killed. Their bodies were discovered by co-workers after family members reported not hearing from them.
The San Juan County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident as a double homicide.
Deputies responded to the scene after workers found the bodies, and it was apparent that both men had died as a result of homicide. The sheriff's office has not released any information about potential suspects or arrests in connection with the case.
The deaths of McCants and Begay contributed to a rise in homicide rates in San Juan County and Farmington in 2023. As of July 2023, the families of the two men were continuing to push for answers in the case. The San Juan County Sheriff's Office Detective Division is actively investigating the double homicide and has asked anyone with information to contact their tipline.
It's worth noting that on the same day as the salvage yard murders, Farmington police officers were involved in a separate incident where they responded to the wrong address and fatally shot Robert Dotson, 52, who was also an employee at the salvage yard. However, deputies believe there is no connection between Dotson's death and the double homicide of McCants and Begay.
