On June 30, 2023, 45-year-old Lisa Lavonne Swift-Bird was fatally shot in the parking lot of a Sonic restaurant in Belen, New Mexico. Officers responded to reports of gunfire around 7 p.m. and found Swift-Bird with a gunshot wound to the chest. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
