On September 25, 2023, 42-year-old Joseph "Joe" Romo, a long-time employee of the Alamogordo Parks and Recreation Department, was fatally shot at Hang Glider Park in Alamogordo, New Mexico. The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m., when officers responded to reports of a disturbance and found Romo suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
