On July 15, 2024, Benigno Rudy Castillo Jr., a 51-year-old resident of Portales, New Mexico, tragically lost his life in a shooting incident. The event occurred in the early morning hours in the area of West Kaywood and North Avenue B in Portales.

Following the shooting, the Portales Police Department launched an investigation into Castillo's death. Their efforts quickly led to the identification of a suspect, 36-year-old Anthony S. Ortega, also from Portales.
