On a tragic day, September 5, 2023, the life of 54-year-old White/Caucasian female Melanie Michele Jansen of Maple Grove, Minnesota, was cut short in a vacation rental at Whitebirch Estates in Breezy Point. She and her 29-year-old daughter, Hannah Nicole Parmenter, were found deceased, both having suffered multiple gunshot wounds in what was determined to be a double homicide.
The devastating discovery was made by Melanie's son and his wife when they arrived at the rental unit for a
planned family visit. Finding the door unanswered, a glance through a window revealed a horrific scene, prompting an immediate call to 911. Investigators later identified the perpetrator as Melanie's 59-year-old partner, Michael Charles Toner. The investigation concluded that Toner fatally shot both Melanie and her daughter before turning the gun on himself in a murder-suicide. Authorities have not released a specific motive for the tragic events. The case is now considered closed, as the sole suspect is deceased.
Melanie was remembered as a kind and generous person who had a positive impact on many. With over 30 years of experience as a hairstylist, she shared a home business with her daughter, Hannah, who was an esthetician.
