On a cold November afternoon in South Saint Paul, Minnesota, the life of 26-year-old Avontae Troy King, a Black male, was tragically cut short. On November 24, 2023, what began as a dispute over a bag of marijuana escalated into a fatal encounter that left a community in mourning and two young men facing murder charges. King, a father of two young boys, was shot in the chest on the 400 block of 3rd Avenue South just before 5 p.m. and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
