On May 17, 2024, at approximately 10:55 p.m., 23-year-old Kevon Ishmel Ewing was fatally shot at the Dale Street Station of the Metro Transit Green Line in St. Paul, Minnesota. Ewing, a resident of Mounds View, was found on the platform with multiple gunshot wounds and was later pronounced dead at Regions Hospital.
Investigations revealed that the shooting stemmed from a confrontation between Ewing and a group of individuals who recognized him as an opposing gang member.
Surveillance footage from the train and platform captured the incident, showing three men—Lamar Kastedell Thomas, 18; Markel Alauntae Jennings, 18; and Markus Antwon Jennings, 22—firing at Ewing as he exited the train.
Following the incident, the suspects fled the scene in a tan Buick Park Avenue. Authorities later located the vehicle, which contained items matching those worn by the shooters during the incident. DNA evidence from a blue surgical mask recovered near the scene also linked Markus Jennings to the crime.
On June 28, 2024, the Ramsey County Attorney's Office charged Thomas, Markel Jennings, and Markus Jennings with second-degree murder in connection with Ewing's death. The charges allege that the trio shot Ewing multiple times as he exited the Metro Green Line train in St. Paul.
