In the quiet town of Duson, Louisiana, the life of 30-year-old Megan Renee Goins was tragically cut short on January 10, 2023. A female resident of Duson, she was found unresponsive in a home located in the 200 block of Stagecoach Lane. The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office responded to the call and discovered Goins had sustained what appeared to be a fatal gunshot wound.
The initial investigation into her death quickly transitioned into a homicide case, marking the first in Lafayette
Parish for the year. Friends and family remembered Megan for her immense heart and deep love for her two sons. In her free time, she enjoyed engaging in arts and crafts and was actively pursuing an education in Cyber and Data Technology. Her sudden and violent death left her family heartbroken and her children without their mother.
The investigation led by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office soon identified a suspect. Three days after Megan's body was discovered, on January 13, 2023, authorities arrested 36-year-old Corey Etienne of Duson. He was taken into custody in the nearby town of Breaux Bridge through a collaborative effort between the Lafayette and St. Martin Parish Sheriff's deputies. Etienne was subsequently charged with second-degree murder in connection with Megan Goins's death. It was later revealed that the suspect had a significant criminal history, including prior arrests for violent offenses.
