In the summer of 2023, the life of 40-year-old Corey Michael Friloux, a male resident of Gibson, Louisiana, was tragically cut short. On the evening of Monday, July 24th, shortly after 8:00 p.m., events unfolded on Vega Court that would end in his untimely death. Friloux was reportedly engaged in an argument with another local resident when a third individual intervened, escalating the verbal dispute to a fatal encounter.
The intervening man was identified by witnesses as 20-year-old
Benyamin William Walker, also of Gibson. During the altercation, Walker allegedly brandished a weapon and fired, striking Friloux. The gunshot wound proved to be fatal, and Corey Michael Friloux was pronounced dead at the scene. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Walker fled the area in a vehicle before law enforcement could arrive.
Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office detectives quickly launched an investigation. Information provided by witnesses at the scene led them to identify Benyamin William Walker as the suspected shooter. Investigators were able to track the vehicle Walker had used to flee to a business in nearby Thibodaux, where they enlisted the assistance of the local police department. Before long, Benyamin Walker surrendered to the authorities and was taken into custody.
During questioning, Walker reportedly admitted to his involvement in the shooting. He was subsequently arrested and charged with Second-Degree Murder. In addition to the murder charge, Walker also had outstanding warrants in an unrelated case. He was booked into the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex, where a judge set his bond at over one million dollars. While an arrest has been made, the case is still pending progression through the legal system.
