In the summer of 2016, the community of Gibson, Louisiana, was rocked by the untimely death of Harold “Butch” Short. A lifelong resident of the area, the 63-year-old African American man was a familiar face to many. His sudden passing on Sunday, July 31, 2016, however, was not due to natural causes. It was a violent end to a life that had been deeply rooted in the small Louisiana town.
