On a Sunday night in Vivian, Louisiana, the life of 21-year-old C’Aundre Anderson was tragically cut short. On September 10, 2023, Anderson was shot outside his home on North Hickory Street, an act of violence that also left his brother, Cuviondrick Anderson, wounded. After being shot, C'Aundre managed to run inside the house he shared with his brother and two other family members before collapsing in the living room, where he was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound to the torso.
His brother, having been shot in the chest, was rushed to a local hospital and then airlifted for further treatment, where he was expected to recover.
The investigation into the shooting quickly led Caddo Parish Sheriff's detectives to a single suspect: 18-year-old Jadaveun Dillard of Oil City. Investigators identified Dillard as the lone gunman in the incident that took one brother's life and injured the other. Following the investigation, Dillard was arrested and booked into the Caddo Correctional Center. He faced serious charges: one count of second-degree murder for the death of C'Aundre Anderson and one count of attempted second-degree murder for the shooting of Cuviondrick Anderson. His bond was set at $1,500,000.
In November 2025, the legal proceedings against Jadaveun Dillard came to a conclusion. Dillard, then 21, pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter in C'Aundre Anderson's death and to attempted second-degree murder for wounding Cuviondrick. A district judge sentenced him to 40 years in prison for the manslaughter conviction and 30 years for the attempted murder charge, with the sentences to be served concurrently at hard labor and without the possibility of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence. The families of both victims approved of the sentences handed down.
