Marlin Rashad Davis, a 23-year-old Black man known for his constant smile, was a supportive son who enjoyed helping his mother, Danielle Brown, with her new mobile sno-ball stand business. Born on June 29, 2000, to Danielle and Marvin Davis, Marlin grew up in New Orleans and graduated from McDonogh 35 Senior High School. He maintained close relationships with his siblings and extended family, who remembered him as a beacon of light in their lives.
On the morning of March 27, 2024, Marlin
had breakfast with his mother before leaving to meet his cousin and another acquaintance. Later that day, around 1 p.m., gunfire broke out in the St. Roch neighborhood. In what was reported as a double shooting, Marlin was struck by multiple bullets in the 2000 block of Painters Street. He was rushed to a local hospital, but he did not survive his injuries.
The New Orleans Police Department began an investigation into the homicide. According to a later account of the case, witness statements proved crucial in helping officials move forward and piece together the events that led to Marlin’s death.
The investigation ultimately led authorities to identify a suspect in the murder. Dejuan “Deezy” Brooks was taken into custody in connection with the killing of Marlin Davis. As of May 2026, the case against Brooks was proceeding through the legal system.
