In the early afternoon of Wednesday, June 5, 2024, the community of LaPlace, Louisiana, was shaken by a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a 24-year-old male resident. Tyreik Omar Jackson, known to his loved ones as 'Reiky Boy,' was inside a home on Belle Pointe Boulevard when the sound of gunfire erupted, leading to a 911 call to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered Jackson suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency medical services were dispatched to the residence and provided immediate medical attention to Jackson before transporting him to University Medical Center. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Tyreik Jackson succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Born on April 18, 2000, in Metairie, Louisiana, he was a graduate of Riverdale High School's class of 2019. His life was remembered by family and friends at a Celebration of Life service held at Cypress Grove Baptist Church in Kenner.
In the wake of the shooting, investigators began a thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Jackson's death. Through the examination of evidence, including witness statements and video footage, detectives were able to identify two suspects in connection with the homicide. The investigation led to the arrests of 21-year-old Mahika Collins and 22-year-old Benjamin Jackson.
Both Collins and Benjamin Jackson have been charged with principal to second-degree murder for their alleged involvement in the death of Tyreik Jackson. The motive for the deadly shooting has not been publicly released by authorities as the investigation continues. The two men are currently in custody as they face legal proceedings for the charges brought against them.
