In the quiet community of Meraux, Louisiana, a heartbreaking incident claimed the life of 13-year-old Wyatt Oser in October of 2024. A male student at N.P. Trist Middle School, Wyatt was remembered for his bright and kind nature, his contagious smile, and a loving spirit that touched many.
On the evening of Sunday, October 6, 2024, Wyatt was at his home with two friends when a gun he was handling unintentionally discharged. The self-inflicted gunshot wound proved to be fatal.
Despite being rushed to a local hospital, he succumbed to his injuries the following day, on October 7, 2024. The St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office investigated the shooting and determined it to be a tragic accident. There have been no reports of any arrests or suspects in connection with the incident.
Wyatt was a lifelong resident of St. Bernard Parish, where he was known as an honor student and a member of the Beta Club and K Kids at Joseph J. Davies Elementary School before attending N.P. Trist Middle School. He had a passion for sports and was a positive and uplifting teammate on the Borgnemouth Braves Booster Club's recreational ball team. He was also a devoted Catholic and an altar server at his church.
The community was deeply affected by the loss of the cheerful and curious young man. His family described him as a joyful and compassionate person with a gift for making others laugh. Counselors were made available to support students and staff at his school, where he was remembered as a friendly and inquisitive student.
