In the early morning hours of Sunday, August 13, 2023, the life of 16-year-old Bryce Stewart was tragically cut short in Owenton, Kentucky. Stewart, a student at Carroll County High School, was at a residence on Squiresville Road when the fatal incident occurred. Kentucky State Police troopers responded to a call about a shooting at the location around 1:21 a.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered that Stewart had sustained a single gunshot wound to the chest. The Owen County Coroner pronounced him deceased at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting led to the arrest of 40-year-old Timothy Stone of Owenton. According to court documents, Stone informed police that he had consumed several beers and a shot of bourbon before the incident. He stated that he was showing his rifle to Stewart when he pointed the weapon at the teenager, resulting in the fatal shot. Stone was taken into custody and charged with second-degree manslaughter.
Bryce Stewart was a well-regarded member of his community and would have been starting his junior year. He was an active student, known for his involvement as a football player and his role as the vice-president of the Future Farmers of America chapter at his school. His sudden death was a shock to those who knew him, leaving his family, friends, and the broader Carroll County community to mourn the loss of a young life.
