On December 18, 2023, 47-year-old Deborah Jean Meece, also known as Debra Meece, was found deceased in her London, Kentucky home in what authorities have described as a murder-suicide. The tragic event unfolded after the London-Laurel County Communications Center received a distressing call from a man who reported that his friend had shot his girlfriend.
Laurel County Sheriff's deputies were immediately dispatched to the residence located just north of the city limits.
Upon their arrival, they were unable to see or hear any activity inside the home. This prompted a request for additional units, and the Laurel County Special Response Team was called to the scene. After obtaining a search warrant, law enforcement made entry into the house.
Inside, they discovered the body of Deborah Meece in the main bedroom; she had sustained a gunshot wound to the face. In the same room, deputies also found the body of 49-year-old Douglas Mutters. Mutters appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The investigation, led by the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, concluded that Mutters was the primary suspect in Meece's death, and with him also being deceased, the case was considered solved.
