Dylan Wayne George, a 31-year-old White / Caucasian male from Eugene, Oregon, was killed during a late-night shooting at a residence on West 18th Avenue in Eugene. The violence unfolded late on January 19, 2023, when Eugene police were called to the 2800 block of West 18th Avenue after reports of shots fired. When officers arrived, they found Dylan deceased inside the home.
A second victim, 20-year-old Breanna Don Dapron of Creswell, was also found critically injured and later died at a hospital.
Investigators determined that the gunfire had been directed into the residence, with later official accounts stating that both victims were struck by bullets fired through a living room window. Police said early in the investigation that the shooting appeared to be targeted. The scene quickly became a double-homicide investigation, leaving two families grieving and a Eugene neighborhood shaken by the sudden loss of two young lives inside what should have been a place of safety.
Dylan was remembered in obituary information as someone with a kind heart and gentle spirit. He was born in La Grande, Oregon, and spent much of his life in Eugene, a city he loved. He graduated with honors from North Eugene High School, later completed an associate degree in business at Lane Community College, and developed an entrepreneurial path through Fam Shop, a business focused on vintage apparel and collectibles. Those details gave a fuller picture of Dylan beyond the violence that ended his life: a son, friend, community member, and creative businessman whose death caused deep pain for those who knew him.
The investigation led to multiple arrests. Vaughn Pierre Derry Jr. of Eugene was arrested on January 23, 2023, and was initially charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of first-degree robbery. Dejuan Debrail Stevens of Eugene was arrested shortly afterward and faced the same initial charges. A third person, Mridul Raghav of Eugene, was arrested on January 27, 2023, and was charged in connection with the case, including robbery-related allegations. Police continued to describe the shooting as targeted as the case moved forward.
The prosecutions ultimately resulted in convictions and lengthy prison sentences. Mridul Raghav, identified in later official reporting as the getaway driver, was convicted of two counts of first-degree robbery and sentenced to 150 months in prison, followed by 36 months of post-prison supervision. Vaughn Pierre Derry Jr., later identified as the shooter, accepted a plea agreement in August 2024 and received a life sentence for the murders, with the possibility of parole after 30 years; he also pleaded guilty to robbery and received a concurrent 90-month sentence. Dejuan Debrail Stevens was sentenced in October 2024 to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 25 years after pleading guilty to two counts of second-degree murder and one count of first-degree robbery. With Stevens’ sentencing, authorities reported that the final defendant in the case had been sentenced, closing the criminal proceedings connected to the killings of Dylan Wayne George and Breanna Don Dapron.
