In a quiet Oregon City neighborhood, the life of Anna Wessel, a 37-year-old Caucasian woman, was tragically cut short on November 13, 2023. Known for her vibrant personality and musical talents, particularly her exceptional ability on the piano, Anna was a cherished figure in her community. She managed the local Geeks & Games store, where her enthusiasm and energy made her a beloved presence among customers.
A devoted mother of four, her children were always her first priority.
The day of her death unfolded in a shocking manner when her husband of 18 years, 41-year-old Anthony Wessel, walked into the Oregon City Police station shortly before 1 p.m. and confessed to killing her. He informed the officers that he had shot his wife inside their family home on Squire Drive. Police rushed to the residence and found Anna deceased inside; she was the only one home at the time. An autopsy later confirmed that she had died from two gunshot wounds to the head.
During the investigation at the home, police discovered a note written by Anthony Wessel addressed to them, revealing that he had initially planned to kill his wife and then himself. However, a second note written in the margin indicated he had changed his mind about suicide and decided to turn himself in to the authorities instead. Further searches uncovered other writings that showed Wessel had been planning the crime.
Anthony Wessel was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon. In April 2024, he pleaded guilty to the murder charge. A judge subsequently sentenced him to life in prison, with the possibility of parole after 25 years.
