In the early morning hours of June 25, 2023, the quiet of a Braintree, Massachusetts neighborhood was shattered by the sound of gunfire. A 16-year-old Black / African American male named Jahzier Porter was killed in the incident. Responding to multiple 911 calls around 1:30 a.m., police arrived at 10 Alfred Road to find a parked car that had become a scene of violence.
Inside the vehicle, Jahzier and another young man, 19-year-old Jayden Santos-Andrade of Dorchester, were discovered with gunshot wounds. A third individual in the car was physically unharmed.
Emergency responders, including police, firefighters, and paramedics, administered life-saving aid at the scene before transporting both teenagers to South Shore Hospital. Despite their efforts, both Jahzier and Jayden Santos-Andrade were pronounced dead. Jahzier was a student at Braintree High School and resided at the Alfred Road home where the shooting took place. Records indicated that police had been called to this residence on several occasions in the year leading up to the fatal shooting for various reasons, including noise complaints and reports of suspicious activity.
The investigation into the double homicide is being handled by Braintree Police and Massachusetts State Police detectives. The Norfolk District Attorney’s office stated that the discovery of multiple shell casings at the scene suggests there may have been more than one shooter. Authorities believe the victims were specifically targeted. As of the latest reports, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the killings. Law enforcement officials have urged anyone with information or relevant video footage from the area to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation. In the wake of the tragedy, grief counselors were made available to support students and the community.
