Joshua Kevin Medeiros, a 34-year-old Hispanic male, was fatally shot on the night of February 9, 2024, in Fall River, Massachusetts. The incident occurred near the intersection of Nashua and Blackstone Streets. Responding to reports of gunfire, Fall River Police discovered Medeiros with critical gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to Saint Luke's Hospital in New Bedford for emergency medical treatment.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Joshua Medeiros succumbed to his
injuries on February 15, 2024, after being on life support for several days. His death was subsequently ruled a homicide, prompting an extensive investigation by law enforcement. Authorities revealed that he had sustained a gunshot wound to the head. Family members reported that over a dozen rounds were fired during the altercation.
The investigation into Medeiros's death led to the identification of a suspect, 32-year-old Kevin Rasheme Barton of Fall River. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and on June 25, 2024, Barton was apprehended in DeKalb County, Georgia. During his capture by law enforcement, Barton was shot but sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was reported to be in stable condition at a local hospital.
Following his arrest, Kevin Rasheme Barton was indicted by a Bristol County Grand Jury on May 17, 2024. The charges against him include murder, carrying an illegal firearm, carrying a loaded illegal firearm, larceny, and possession of a large-capacity firearm. After his extradition back to Massachusetts, Barton was arraigned in Fall River Superior Court, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges. He is currently being held without bail as the legal proceedings continue.
