On July 16, 2023, 24-year-old Sergio A. Alvarez Jr., affectionately known as "Serg" or "Sergie," was fatally shot near the intersection of Milton and St. Joseph Streets in South Bend, Indiana. Following the incident, Alvarez arrived at Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The South Bend Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit is investigating the case and has urged anyone with information to contact Michiana Crime Stoppers.
