On March 23, 2024, 14-year-old Damien Dae Dae Abenante-Villa was fatally shot in Whiting, Indiana. At the time of the incident, Damien was visiting his family in Whiting to celebrate a birthday and was walking with his cousins and friends towards a park near the intersection of LaPorte and Ohio Avenues when he was gunned down.
