In the late summer evening of September 2, 2024, a burst of violence shattered the peace at the intersection of W. 22nd Plaza and Morton Street in Gary, Indiana, leaving a Chicago man lifeless. Larry Whiters, a 47-year-old male, was discovered suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The Lake County Coroner's Office was summoned to the scene at 8:50 p.m. and he was pronounced dead by 9:34 p.m. His family was present to make a positive identification.
