In the late evening hours of September 16, 2024, a tragic event unfolded at a local business situated at the intersection of State Road 163 and State Road 63 in Clinton, Indiana, culminating in the death of 41-year-old Devin S. Shelby of Robinson, Illinois. Devin S. Shelby was a White male. Reports of gunfire prompted an immediate response from troopers with the Indiana State Police Putnamville Post and various Vermillion County law enforcement agencies. Upon their arrival, they discovered Shelby suffering from gunshot wounds.
First responders at the scene immediately began administering first aid to Shelby, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he succumbed to them at the scene. A 19-year-old from Clinton, Indiana, named Gavin I. Bodkins, identified himself to the authorities as the individual who had fired the shots. It was also Bodkins who had placed the 911 call to report the incident.
The investigation into the shooting was taken over by the Indiana State Police at the request of the Vermillion County Sheriff. Detectives from the Indiana State Police conducted a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Following the completion of their investigation, the findings were turned over to the Vermillion County Prosecutor's Office. The prosecutor will review the case to determine whether any charges will be filed in connection with Devin S. Shelby's death. The case remains under review, and no charges have been announced at this time.
